Dear Friends,

September, and especially Labor Day (which we celebrated at the top of this month) has a special meaning for me since 1994.  You see my oldest son, Andrew, was born on Labor Day that year.  This year we were fortunate to have all of our children under one roof (for the weekend at least).  Seeing and hearing them catching up about different things going on in their lives, discussing politics  (the older ones) and cartoons (the little girls) brought warm feelings to my heart.  I feel blessed that our children get along and genuinely care about each other.

Unfortunately, in my experience, these relationships sometimes deteriorate when parents (including step-parents) are no longer there.  The glue that held them together may be gone and that can cause friction.  This is why it is important to have a plan in place to reduce this friction and risk of hurt feelings among siblings.  If this is a concern to you, give me a call, I will be happy to visit with you about your concerns.

Taking an extra day off for Labor Day can also be a great opportunity to recharge your batteries and evaluate where you are at this time of the year.  It is almost the end of the third quarter, which is a great time to look at the numbers in your business.  Are you on track to meet your annual business goals, or do you need to step it up to catch up?  COVID has probably altered some of these business targets, but we should nonetheless try to reach them.

This past month, I also started to evaluate my health.  I turned 51 last month and I am in good health, my numbers all look good, but I have noticed I am spending more time at the office and have not been exercising.  I have been inspired by friends and family to get back in shape, and so I have ordered a treadmill and I have started some friendly competitions for when it gets delivered.  I know my competitive nature will get me motivated, and I hope at the same time motivate my friends.

So as we approach the last quarter of 2020, we are at a good vantage point to look back (scary at times) at where we have been and resolve to get back on track, or even step up our game to finish the last quarter exceeding our goals.  I wish you all success as we round out this quarter.

If you would like to visit with us in person by appointment or by Zoom, contact us today.

May you be blessed and your family safe for the remainder of September.

Best Regards,

Joseph Michael Dickerson
